Sharp Electronics Corp. today endorsed NPort Express DE-311 from Moxa Technologies, an RS-232/LAN device server that gives customers instant, seamless connectivity to TCP/IP networks through their Sharp projectors. This solution allows customers to connect Sharp projectors to a network through an RS-232 port, allowing them to remotely monitor and control the equipment from a central location. The ability to remotely manage AV assets will confer immediate benefits to customers in the education, government and corporate arenas.
MOXA NPort Express DE-311 device server earned Sharp’s endorsement due to its:
* Small Size: NPort Express is about the size of a bar of soap, with an RJ45 port on one end and a female DB9 port on the other.
* Easy Integration: NPort Express automatically adjusts to 10BaseT or 100 BaseT.
* Compatibility: NPort Express works well with Sharp’s Advanced Presentation Software (S.A.P.S.), which offers remote diagnostics and control capability.
* Affordable: Available now through Moxa authorized distributors and Sharp dealers at an MSRP of $299.
“With Moxa’s device server, our customers will be able to check lamp life, minimize downtime by monitoring performance and diagnostics, and heighten security by recognizing when a projector has been removed from its proper location,” said John Givelis, product manager, Sharp LCD Products Group. “Many customers have a large number of projectors spread out over a wide area, and managing them all can be a time-consuming and inefficient process. NPort Express solves that issue by giving these customers the control they need from a single location.”
The virtual COM port software required to control NPort Express is compatible with Windows 95 through Windows XP, and is included with the device. Using Sharp’s Advanced Presentation Software, up to 99 projectors can be quickly added to any virtual COM port and can be monitored from anywhere on the network.
Sharp offers a full line of Mobile, Conference / Classroom and Large Venue projectors, LCD video monitors and professional video equipment for purchase, lease or rental through its national network of authorized dealers and resellers.
